What a difference a buttonhole makes

Witness the buttonholes on the Mason Dixon Baby Bib o'Loves I knitted up for my friend's new little one soon to come. Buttonhole on left is following their instructions, the typical bound off buttonhole, reworked three times and this was my best effort. I thought it quite sloppy, so I looked for my little Lucy Neatby booklet, Taking the Checquered Flag. And there was this neat buttonhole instruction that worked to a T in the yellow cotton yarn. She calls it a one row buttonhole, or somesuch, but isn't it a huge improvement? BTW, I frogged the one on the left and redid it.
And here are the bibs. Photo color is not good, but they are sweet little things. Someone said on their blog that they take about eight hours each and I don't think that timing is far off.
And here is a quick peek at my acorn socks. They have grown to several more motifs by now. Had my hair worked on today as well as a pedicure, and knitted along on them straight through.

Lovely bibs! And I agree about the buttonhole - the Neatby one is - well, NEAT-er - isn't it? What a good idea, knitting at the hairdresser's and pedicurist's! Why didn't I think of that (did you get a fine layer of hair on the socks?)

I like the yarn colors -- is it STR? Can't wait to see the finished socks once they're done!

Knitting at the hairdressers does sound like risky business. Hopefully the stylist kept her eyes on your coif and not your needles!

I'm a fan of the one row buttonhole too- I found instructions for one in my Vogue knitting book.

You have no idea how happy I am to see that horrid buttonhole ala MD Knitting. As a VERY new knitter I tried their method on this bib last summer and it looked so bad I ended up using velcro on the tabs instead (after knitting and reknitting the thing). I have the Vogue knitting book and will store away in my memory file to use it!

Eight hours to knit that baby bib? That's a misprint, right? The Mason Dixon bib is almost identical to one in the knitlist gift patterns. Those things are so fast and easy, I can knit one in about 1 hour.
